“Shannon” dba Shannon Boat Company is a technology development company located in Bristol, Rhode Island, U.S.A. For over 40 years Shannon established an international reputation for designing and building high quality semi-custom offshore yachts valued at over $240M and delivered worldwide. The business model slowly transitioned to take full advantage of Walter Schulz’s continuing interest in “making things better”.
Schulz became known for his work in marine engineering, earning seven patents for his innovative designs. After completing five projects, Schulz sold the patents to third parties in Europe and Asia.
Walt and his team at Shannon are working on two unique and internationally patented projects; Amphfoil Technology and the RCI (Reactive Cyclical Induction) diesel exhaust emissions reduction system.
Amphfoil Technology is a totally new approach for fast, hydrofoil, hybrid powered catamarans with applications in government, commercial, and recreation. Walt has over 25 years of experience with hydrofoil technology, having several in the water designs for full testing. A 6m Amphfoil is under construction in Bristol.
Amphfoil Inc. is an independently-owned corporation based in Delaware, USA. Shannon controls all patent rights, intellectual property and design rights related to Amphfoil’s groundbreaking technology.
STEc Technology’s RCI (Reactive Cyclical Induction)
The RCI (Reactive Cyclical Induction) diesel exhaust emissions reduction system represents a breakthrough in addressing dangerous nitric oxide emissions from diesel engines in boats, a problem largely ignored compared to advancements made for diesel trucks. Walt has been working with diesel engines since his college days, and has witnessed significant improvements in efficiency over the years. However, these advancements have come at the cost of increased harmful and environmentally destructive nitric oxide emissions. The Shannon team has a prototype RCI diesel exhaust system operating on a 32-foot powerboat aiming to tackle this pressing issue.
Shannon dba STec Technology, an independently owned corporation based in Delaware, U.S.A, holds all patent rights to RCI. In 2023 STec was awarded the Competitive Grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation and has received grants from Mass Clean Energy Commission to advance their work in mitigating pollutants from marine diesel emissions.
